Said the Broken Bird. Poem by Sher Trott-Bailey
Said the broken Bird to her father, Why have you struck me so? You never made me with great strength, only with the ability to fly With the yearning for freedom and flight To flit about in no great cares.Yet in an instant, Father, you have struck me! you have knocked out my breath! Now you hold me in your large cupped palms 🤲, my wings broken and weak, My heart heavy and weeping, I stare at the sky... who is that? Who is holding me? Is it the same one who struck me? Is it really you Father? Why have you struck me? Why have you struck the one you love? You have struck me!Yet now you hold me?My tears swamp my feathers My heart wishes to give out To stop beating, for there is no point in living For the one who I didn't expect He has been the one to strike me. If he had struck me and me only, Then maybe I could bear it But he has struck me and my other half He has separated us Father has taken him away Then he turned to strike me too. Yet now the one who strikes me,Turns to comfort me?And I ask..Is it really you Father? I have no strength..I cannot tell if it's really you.
