disconnected from their families.<\/p>\n\n<p>People are struggling to build lasting relationships.<\/p>\n\n<p>Parents barely have enough time for their children.<\/p>\n\n<p>Husbands and wives barely have enough time for each other.<\/p>\n\n<p>Many people spend most of their lives doing work they do not even want to do.<\/p>\n\n<p>Then they come home tired.<\/p>\n\n<p>They scroll.<\/p>\n\n<p>They drink.<\/p>\n\n<p>They shop.<\/p>\n\n<p>They watch.<\/p>\n\n<p>They distract themselves.<\/p>\n\n<p>They try to make it through another week.<\/p>\n\n<p>And society keeps asking:<\/p>\n\n<p>Why are people so unhappy?<\/p>\n\n<p>Why are relationships failing?<\/p>\n\n<p>Why are people struggling mentally?<\/p>\n\n<p>Why are families weak?<\/p>\n\n<p>Why are young people lost?<\/p>\n\n<p>Why does actually build human life, why is it surprised by the condition of human life?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>This article is going to look at what society treated as serious work and what it treated as secondary.<\/p>\n\n<p>It is going to look at childhood.<\/p>\n\n<p>Family.<\/p>\n\n<p>Marriage preparation.<\/p>\n\n<p>Money.<\/p>\n\n<p>Competition.<\/p>\n\n<p>Conquest.<\/p>\n\n<p>Sexual prowess.<\/p>\n\n<p>Work.<\/p>\n\n<p>Status.<\/p>\n\n<p>Consumption.<\/p>\n\n<p>And the kind of human beings all that training helped produce.<\/p>\n\n<p>The argument is simple:<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"tbf-keyline\">\n  <p><strong>family, childhood and marriage preparation were not treated as serious civilization work, while money, conquest and male sexual prowess were.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Then we got the results.<\/p>\n\n<p>And now we act surprised.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Society Knows How to Take Something Seriously When It Wants To<\/h2>\n\n<p>Look at how seriously society takes money.<\/p>\n\n<p>Children spend years preparing to earn it.<\/p>\n\n<p>Schools are built around preparing people for jobs.<\/p>\n\n<p>Universities are built around careers.<\/p>\n\n<p>People spend years earning qualifications.<\/p>\n\n<p>Companies measure performance.<\/p>\n\n<p>Governments measure economic growth.<\/p>\n\n<p>Businesses measure profit.<\/p>\n\n<p>People compare salaries.<\/p>\n\n<p>People compare houses.<\/p>\n\n<p>People compare cars.<\/p>\n\n<p>People compare titles.<\/p>\n\n<p>People compare careers.<\/p>\n\n<p>People ask children:<\/p>\n\n<p>What do you want to be when you grow up?<\/p>\n\n<p>Usually they mean:<\/p>\n\n<p>What job will you have?<\/p>\n\n<p>How will you earn money?<\/p>\n\n<p>What career will you choose?<\/p>\n\n<p>Society knows how to organize training when it decides something matters.<\/p>\n\n<p>Look at sports.<\/p>\n\n<p>Children train for years.<\/p>\n\n<p>They practice.<\/p>\n\n<p>They have coaches.<\/p>\n\n<p>They study technique.<\/p>\n\n<p>They compete.<\/p>\n\n<p>They improve.<\/p>\n\n<p>Look at music.<\/p>\n\n<p>Children practice instruments for years.<\/p>\n\n<p>Look at medicine.<\/p>\n\n<p>People can train for more than a decade.<\/p>\n\n<p>Look at the military.<\/p>\n\n<p>Training is serious.<\/p>\n\n<p>Discipline is serious.<\/p>\n\n<p>Preparation is serious.<\/p>\n\n<p>Look at business.<\/p>\n\n<p>People study sales.<\/p>\n\n<p>Marketing.<\/p>\n\n<p>Leadership.<\/p>\n\n<p>Management.<\/p>\n\n<p>Negotiation.<\/p>\n\n<p>Growth.<\/p>\n\n<p>Investment.<\/p>\n\n<p>Society knows how to prepare people.<\/p>\n\n<p>So the question is not whether human beings know how to train for important things.<\/p>\n\n<p>We clearly do.<\/p>\n\n<p>The question is:<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"tbf-question\">\n  <p><strong>What did we decide was important enough to train for?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2>How Seriously Did We Train People for Life?<\/h2>\n\n<p>How seriously were children trained to build a peaceful home?<\/p>\n\n<p>How seriously were boys trained to become good husbands?<\/p>\n\n<p>How seriously were girls trained to become good wives?<\/p>\n\n<p>How seriously were young people taught how to choose a husband or wife?<\/p>\n\n<p>How seriously were they taught how to notice bad character before making a lifelong commitment?<\/p>\n\n<p>How seriously were children taught how to care for babies?<\/p>\n\n<p>How seriously were they taught how to care for sick people?<\/p>\n\n<p>How seriously were they taught how to live with other people without destroying each other?<\/p>\n\n<p>How seriously were they taught to control anger?<\/p>\n\n<p>To apologize?<\/p>\n\n<p>To forgive?<\/p>\n\n<p>To repair after conflict?<\/p>\n\n<p>To keep promises?<\/p>\n\n<p>To stay faithful?<\/p>\n\n<p>To manage sexual desire?<\/p>\n\n<p>To share work?<\/p>\n\n<p>To raise children?<\/p>\n\n<p>To protect family boundaries?<\/p>\n\n<p>To know when enough is enough?<\/p>\n\n<p>To build a life that actually feels worth waking up for?<\/p>\n\n<p>We trained people for many things around life.<\/p>\n\n<p>But we did not train them nearly as seriously for life itself.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Childhood Should Have Been Serious Civilization Work<\/h2>\n\n<p>What is childhood for?<\/p>\n\n<p>Is it only the period before a person becomes economically useful?<\/p>\n\n<p>Is it mainly about school?<\/p>\n\n<p>Tests?<\/p>\n\n<p>Grades?<\/p>\n\n<p>Certificates?<\/p>\n\n<p>Getting into the next school?<\/p>\n\n<p>Preparing for the next job?<\/p>\n\n<p>Or is childhood also the time when a civilization helps build the kind of human beings it wants to live with later?<\/p>\n\n<p>Children become adults.<\/p>\n\n<p>That sounds obvious.<\/p>\n\n<p>But society often behaves as though adulthood begins from nowhere.<\/p>\n\n<p>The angry adult was once a child.<\/p>\n\n<p>The careless parent was once a child.<\/p>\n\n<p>The selfish husband was once a boy.<\/p>\n\n<p>The irresponsible wife was once a girl.<\/p>\n\n<p>The adult who cannot solve a disagreement without shouting was once a child learning how people handle conflict.<\/p>\n\n<p>The adult who does not know how to care for anyone was once a child deciding what care looks like.<\/p>\n\n<p>The adult who thinks love means getting whatever he wants was once a child learning what love means.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"tbf-keyline\">\n  <p>Childhood matters because <strong>childhood builds the adults a civilization later has to live with.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>If you want capable adults, start building capability in childhood.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you want caring adults, let children practice care.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you want responsible adults, give children growing responsibility.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you want good husbands and wives, do not wait until somebody is standing at an altar before beginning to talk about marriage.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you want good parents, let children grow up understanding that family life requires work, patience, service, self-control and love.<\/p>\n\n<p>Childhood should have been treated as one of the most important parts of civilization.<\/p>\n\n<p>Instead, too often, it became preparation for the economy.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Family Became the Leftover Part of Life<\/h2>\n\n<p>Look at the daily order society often creates.<\/p>\n\n<p>School gets the children.<\/p>\n\n<p>Work gets the adults.<\/p>\n\n<p>Traffic gets more time.<\/p>\n\n<p>Phones get more time.<\/p>\n\n<p>Bills get more attention.<\/p>\n\n<p>Career gets the best energy.<\/p>\n\n<p>Then family gets what is left.<\/p>\n\n<p>Mom comes home tired.<\/p>\n\n<p>Dad comes home tired.<\/p>\n\n<p>The children are tired.<\/p>\n\n<p>Food has to be made.<\/p>\n\n<p>Things have to be cleaned.<\/p>\n\n<p>Someone needs help with something.<\/p>\n\n<p>Someone is upset.<\/p>\n\n<p>Someone is sick.<\/p>\n\n<p>Someone needs attention.<\/p>\n\n<p>Tomorrow everything starts again.<\/p>\n\n<p>Then people say:<\/p>\n\n<p>Why are families not closer?<\/p>\n\n<p>What did you think would happen?<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"tbf-keyline\">\n  <p><strong>Family was treated like the leftover part of life, even though it is where most people first learn how to be human with other human beings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Family is where children first learn sharing.<\/p>\n\n<p>Waiting.<\/p>\n\n<p>Listening.<\/p>\n\n<p>Helping.<\/p>\n\n<p>Arguing.<\/p>\n\n<p>Repairing.<\/p>\n\n<p>Loving.<\/p>\n\n<p>Being annoyed with someone and still caring about them.<\/p>\n\n<p>Living with different personalities.<\/p>\n\n<p>Caring for sick people.<\/p>\n\n<p>Helping younger children.<\/p>\n\n<p>Respecting privacy.<\/p>\n\n<p>Doing work because the family needs it done.<\/p>\n\n<p>Family is not some small private hobby people fit around the serious parts of civilization.<\/p>\n\n<p>Family is one of the places where civilization makes people.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Marriage Was Supposed to Matter, But Marriage Preparation Barely Did<\/h2>\n\n<p>Society says marriage is important.<\/p>\n\n<p>Fine.<\/p>\n\n<p>Then where was the serious preparation?<\/p>\n\n<p>Where were the years of training?<\/p>\n\n<p>Where was the practice in communication?<\/p>\n\n<p>Conflict repair?<\/p>\n\n<p>Household work?<\/p>\n\n<p>Childcare?<\/p>\n\n<p>Sexual wisdom?<\/p>\n\n<p>Self-control?<\/p>\n\n<p>Choosing a spouse?<\/p>\n\n<p>Spotting dangerous behavior?<\/p>\n\n<p>Understanding faithfulness?<\/p>\n\n<p>Protecting marriage boundaries?<\/p>\n\n<p>Learning how to live closely with another human being?<\/p>\n\n<p>Instead, young people often received much more training in dating.<\/p>\n\n<p>Attractiveness.<\/p>\n\n<p>Sexual performance.<\/p>\n\n<p>Career building.<\/p>\n\n<p>Money.<\/p>\n\n<p>Status.<\/p>\n\n<p>And how to keep their options open.<\/p>\n\n<p>Then somehow they were expected to become excellent husbands and wives later.<\/p>\n\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"tbf-keyline\">\n  <p><strong>A boy could receive more cultural encouragement to prove that he can get women than to prove that he can become a good husband.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Think about how strange that is.<\/p>\n\n<p>A society can praise a boy for sexual conquest.<\/p>\n\n<p>Praise him for having access to women.<\/p>\n\n<p>Praise him for being able to attract many women.<\/p>\n\n<p>Praise him for sexual confidence.<\/p>\n\n<p>Praise him for sexual experience.<\/p>\n\n<p>Then barely ask whether he knows how to love one woman well.<\/p>\n\n<p>Whether he can stay faithful.<\/p>\n\n<p>Whether he can hear no without becoming cruel.<\/p>\n\n<p>Whether he can care for a pregnant wife.<\/p>\n\n<p>Whether he can change diapers.<\/p>\n\n<p>Whether he can share housework.<\/p>\n\n<p>Whether he can control himself.<\/p>\n\n<p>Whether he can protect his wife from outside interference.<\/p>\n\n<p>Whether he knows how to repair after hurting her.<\/p>\n\n<p>Whether he knows how to become deeply sexually fluent with the woman he actually married.<\/p>\n\n<p>We found ways to make male sexual conquest impressive while treating preparation for faithful marriage as almost boring.<\/p>\n\n<p>That says something about what society valued.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Sexual Prowess Is Not More Important Than Husbandhood<\/h2>\n\n<p>Why did having many women become a sign of manhood?<\/p>\n\n<p>Why did conquest count?<\/p>\n\n<p>Why did access to women become something to boast about?<\/p>\n\n<p>Why was male sexual appetite treated as something powerful and important while faithfulness, tenderness, patience and self-control received far less glory?<\/p>\n\n<p>A man can sleep with many women and still be a terrible husband.<\/p>\n\n<p>He can know how to attract women and not know how to care for one.<\/p>\n\n<p>He can know how to begin relationships and not know how to keep one.<\/p>\n\n<p>He can know how to get sex and not know how to build intimacy.<\/p>\n\n<p>He can know how to chase novelty and have no idea how to build depth.<\/p>\n\n<p>So what exactly did society train him for?<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"tbf-keyline\">\n  <p><strong>Sexual prowess is not more important than husbandhood.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>If society wants strong marriages, it should take the making of good husbands more seriously than the counting of sexual conquests.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Money Became More Serious Than Human Life<\/h2>\n\n<p>Money has been treated with enormous seriousness.<\/p>\n\n<p>People plan entire lives around it.<\/p>\n\n<p>Where should I live?<\/p>\n\n<p>Where should I work?<\/p>\n\n<p>What should I study?<\/p>\n\n<p>How much will I earn?<\/p>\n\n<p>How much will this house cost?<\/p>\n\n<p>What will retirement cost?<\/p>\n\n<p>How much do I need saved?<\/p>\n\n<p>How can I make more?<\/p>\n\n<p>How can I move up?<\/p>\n\n<p>How can I own more?<\/p>\n\n<p>But how often do we ask:<\/p>\n\n<p>Will you know how to love somebody?<\/p>\n\n<p>Will you know how to care for your children?<\/p>\n\n<p>Will you know how to keep your marriage peaceful?<\/p>\n\n<p>Will you know how to enjoy your family?<\/p>\n\n<p>Will you know how to care for your parents when they are old?<\/p>\n\n<p>Will you know how to sit with someone who is grieving?<\/p>\n\n<p>Will you know how to build a home people feel safe in?<\/p>\n\n<p>Will you know how to control yourself?<\/p>\n\n<p>Will you know how to stop chasing more?<\/p>\n\n<p>Will you know what your life is for?<\/p>\n\n<p>A person can be highly trained for earning and badly trained for living.<\/p>\n\n<p>A person can be professionally successful and miserable.<\/p>\n\n<p>A person can know how to manage a company and not know how to talk to his own wife.<\/p>\n\n<p>A person can earn a lot of money and barely know his children.<\/p>\n\n<p>A person can own a beautiful house and hate being inside it.<\/p>\n\n<p>A person can have everything society told him to chase and still wake up wondering:<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"tbf-question\">\n  <p><strong>Is this it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Economic usefulness is not the same thing as human readiness.<\/p>\n\n<h2>So Why Are You
