automatically good or bad. Wisdom means looking at\n        who controls the gate, what they are protecting, who they are stopping,\n        why they are stopping them, and what happens when the gate is opened.\n      <\/p>\n    <\/header>\n\n    <section class=\"training\">\n\n      <article class=\"card\">\n        <div class=\"question-number\">Question 1<\/div>\n\n        <h2>Is gatekeeping wrong in general?<\/h2>\n\n        <div class=\"answer\">\n          No. In general, gatekeeping is not good or bad.\n        <\/div>\n\n        <p>\n          Gatekeeping is bad when it&#8217;s done by bad people to stop good people\n          from getting resources.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          Bad people using bad things\/ underhanded methods and blocking the way of good people and\n          good things is wrong.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          Bad people putting bad things in the way or stopping good people from\n          accessing good things is what&#8217;s wrong.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          Sometimes somebody has to guard access, protect standards, or stop abuse.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <div class=\"core-line\">\n          The problem is <strong>who holds the gate, what they are protecting,\n          and who they are keeping out.<\/strong>\n        <\/div>\n\n        <p>\n          A bad gatekeeper uses control to hoard opportunity, protect their own\n          status, punish outsiders, or keep capable people away from land,\n          knowledge, tools, institutions, funding, publication, food, housing,\n          or other resources they could put to good use.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          <strong>\n            Gatekeeping becomes evil when bad people control the gate and use it\n            to stop good, capable people from reaching resources they could use\n            to create life, solve problems, and help others.\n          <\/strong>\n        <\/p>\n\n        <div class=\"two-sides\">\n          <div class=\"side good\">\n            <h3>Good gatekeeping<\/h3>\n            <p>\n              Good gatekeeping can protect good resources from people who would\n              destroy, waste, exploit, or corrupt them.\n            <\/p>\n          <\/div>\n\n          <div class=\"side bad\">\n            <h3>Bad gatekeeping<\/h3>\n            <p>\n              Bad gatekeeping can keep good people away from resources,\n              opportunities, knowledge, land, tools, or institutions they could\n              use well.\n            <\/p>\n          <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n\n        <div class=\"core-line\">\n          The gate itself is not the moral issue.\n          <strong>The judgment at the gate is.<\/strong>\n        <\/div>\n      <\/article>\n\n      <article class=\"card principle\">\n        <div class=\"principle-label\">Important Principle<\/div>\n\n        <h2>Do not judge only the existence of the gate.<\/h2>\n\n        <p class=\"principle-text\">\n          A gate can be good while the thing behind it is bad, or a gate can be\n          bad while the thing behind it is good.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          Look at what is behind the gate, who is being stopped, who controls\n          access, and why.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <div class=\"examples\">\n\n          <div class=\"example\">\n            <strong>A good gate protecting people from a bad thing<\/strong>\n\n            <p>\n              A locked medicine cabinet keeps a small child from getting\n              dangerous drugs. The drugs can harm the child, so the gate is good.\n            <\/p>\n\n            <p>\n              Requiring prescriptions for certain strong drugs can also be a good\n              gate. The rule limits access because the thing being controlled can\n              cause serious harm if used wrongly.\n            <\/p>\n          <\/div>\n\n          <div class=\"example\">\n            <strong>A bad gate blocking people from a good thing<\/strong>\n\n            <p>\n              A corrupt official could stop a capable family from accessing safe\n              land because they do not have the right connections, even though\n              they could use that land to build a home, grow food, and create\n              something good.\n            <\/p>\n\n            <p>\n              The land is good. The gatekeeping is bad.\n            <\/p>\n          <\/div>\n\n        <\/div>\n      <\/article>\n\n      <article class=\"card family-card\">\n        <div class=\"question-number\">Question 2<\/div>\n\n        <h2>When is it okay for a good person to block another good person from a good thing?<\/h2>\n\n        <div class=\"answer\">\n          A good person can stop another good person from accessing a good thing\n          if giving that person the resource would seriously harm or deplete\n          their own well-being or the well-being of their own family.\n        <\/div>\n\n        <p>\n          If I have something good and giving it to you would seriously impact\n          me, my husband or wife, my children, or my household, I have the right\n          to say no if I decide that is necessary.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <div class=\"family-principle\">\n          Being a good person does not mean everybody else has an unlimited claim\n          on the good things you have.\n        <\/div>\n\n        <p>\n          A good person does not become bad simply because they protect the\n          well-being of their own household.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          The good thing does not become bad either. The issue is whether giving\n          access to it would seriously deplete the person being asked to give,\n          or seriously harm the people they are responsible for.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <div class=\"god-note\">\n          <strong>These are not absolutes.<\/strong>\n\n          <p>\n            There is always the dynamic voice of God. There may be times when God\n            calls a person to give sacrificially.\n          <\/p>\n\n          <p>\n            But in general, God does not require good people to be good to other\n            good people at the expense of their own well-being or the well-being\n            of their family. God is a person of abundance and people having more than enough so that situations like these won&#8217;t have to occur. That is the greater aim and focus to achieve rather than worry about one off cases like these ever occurring. I just mentioned it in here because it came to mind, lest you be guilted into doing something you don&#8217;t want to do just because you like or admire another person. Finally once you state your reason clearly to another good person, a good person would not press the issue because they too have a family that they love, so they can understand how you feel and they wouldn&#8217;t want you to cause your family troubles.
