Get It Through Your Psychotic Money Haze: We Are Already Abundant

Get it through your psychotic money haze: we are already abundant.

I am not talking about some future where humanity finally develops enough technology to make enough food, clothes, furniture, shelter and ordinary necessities for everybody.

I am saying we already have enough.

We have advanced enough that we can create abundance in minutes. We have advanced enough that machines can do work that once required hundreds or thousands of human beings. We can cultivate enormous areas of land, process food, manufacture building materials, make furniture, sew clothing, move goods across the planet, refrigerate them, preserve them and coordinate distribution at a scale our ancestors could hardly imagine.

And what do we insist on doing with all of that capability?

Selling everything to each other. Guarding it. Locking it away. Discarding it. Leaving it unsold. Refusing people access because they do not have enough money.

All while pretending scarcity is still the great problem we have to organize civilization around.

Look at the food.

In 2022, the world wasted 1.05 billion tonnes of food at the retail, food-service and household levels. That was around 19 percent of all food available to consumers. Households alone wasted more than one billion meals every day. And before food even reaches the shops, roughly another 13 percent is lost after harvest and before retail. Source: UNEP

We are literally growing the food, harvesting the food, transporting the food, refrigerating the food, putting the food on shelves, allowing people to eat their guts full, and still throwing enormous amounts of food away.

So what exactly are we waiting for before we admit that the problem is not simply that humanity cannot produce enough food?

We are producing enough food to waste it by the billion tonnes, and still somebody can stand outside that abundance hungry because they do not have the money required to cross the payment gate.

Look at clothes.

The world produces around 92 million tonnes of textile waste every year. Clothing production doubled between 2000 and 2015 while the length of time garments were actually being used fell by about 36 percent. Source: UNEP

We are making so many clothes that mountains of them are becoming waste, and somebody still needs money before they are allowed to put clothes on their body.

Look at furniture.

I wondered whether five factories could make enough furniture for the whole Earth. The numbers do not support that particular claim, so forget it. The actual numbers are ridiculous enough.

A 2025 study of China’s furniture industry reports that China’s large furniture firms produced about 1.12 billion pieces of furniture in 2023: roughly 380 million wooden pieces, 486 million metal pieces, 86 million upholstered pieces and 168 million other pieces. Source: furniture-industry study

More than a billion pieces of furniture in one year from one country’s large furniture manufacturers.

We do not lack the ability to make furniture.

So why are we behaving as though every individual family must struggle alone to afford a bed, a table, chairs and somewhere to put their clothes?

Why this absurd insistence on selling basic life to each other for a few bucks?

We could literally help each other build houses and furnish them. Not theoretically. Physically. With the capabilities that already exist.

China makes the insanity especially easy to see.

Completed, but unsold.

Think about those words.

Human beings need shelter. The buildings exist. The concrete has already been poured. The steel has already been used. The labour has already happened. The rooms physically exist.

But the homes can still sit there because the financial arrangement has not happened.

What kind of madness is that?

We have taken physical abundance and made money the permission slip for touching it.

This is what I mean when I say everyone is sitting in their little bubble.

The furniture person is trying to sell furniture. The farmer is trying to sell food. The builder is trying to sell houses. The clothing manufacturer is trying to sell clothes.

Everybody is desperately trying to get money from everybody else without looking up and realizing that together we have already produced an astonishing amount of what everybody needs.

We do not need every person on Earth to suddenly become a farmer, carpenter, tailor, mason and furniture maker.

We already built the machines.

Industrial farming equipment can till and sow huge areas. Manufacturing lines can pour out useful goods continuously. Modern construction equipment can move earth, lift materials, form components and build at speeds that were impossible for most of human history.

Yet instead of using that advancement to return human time, we use it to produce more things to sell.

Then when the things do not sell, we call it oversupply.

Listen to that word.

People need things, we have made too many things, and somehow that is treated as an economic problem.

We have reached the point where abundance itself can be described as bad news because there is too much product chasing too little money.

That is the psychotic money haze I am talking about.

Food exists, but somebody cannot eat because they cannot pay. A house exists, but somebody cannot live there because they cannot pay. Furniture exists, but somebody cannot furnish their home because they cannot pay. Clothes exist in such quantities that we throw millions of tonnes away, but somebody still needs money before they can dress themselves.

Why are we doing this to each other?

And water?

There is the sea.

We have desalination. We have rain capture, storage, treatment and reuse. We already know how to move and recover water. We have pumps, pipes, filtration, membranes, reservoirs and energy systems.

Build the systems.

The sea is not going anywhere. Rain is not some new discovery. Water reuse is not science fiction. Desalination is not science fiction.

We have the technology. Coordinate it.

This is my argument about basic living.

Food, water, shelter, clothing and basic household goods.

We have developed enough productive ability that these things do not need to remain permanently organized around whether every individual can produce enough money to purchase them.

We could coordinate. We could share. We could build houses for each other. We could furnish them from the enormous manufacturing capacity we already have. We could clothe each other. We could feed each other.

We could stop treating every piece of abundance as an opportunity to squeeze a few more dollars out of another human being.

We are not waiting for abundance.

We already waste 1.05 billion tonnes of food. We generate around 92 million tonnes of textile waste. China’s large furniture manufacturers can make more than a billion furniture pieces in a year. China alone can produce around a billion tonnes of steel and 1.8 billion tonnes of cement in a year, while hundreds of millions of square metres of finished housing can sit unsold.

We have the materials, the machines and the productive capability.

What we keep refusing to do is coordinate all of that around life instead of money.

Instead, we guard abundance. We put gates around it. We let it rot. We dump it. We leave it empty. We slow production when people still have needs because the market cannot absorb any more. We call abundance “oversupply” and then keep human beings working their lives away for access to what we already know how to make in enormous quantities.

Well, your reckoning is here.

No matter how much you try to hide abundance, abundance will not hide anymore.

There is a God who sees.

Oh, so you do not want to make the grapes free?

Let the grapes start growing everywhere.

Let everything multiply and abound.

Let the animals keep fucking and multiplying until meat is everywhere.

Let food grow.

Let abundance become so obvious that nobody can keep pretending the great problem of civilization is that there simply is not enough.

Then let us see your food chain thrive on artificial restriction.

Let us see you sell scarcity when abundance is staring everybody in the face.

We are not waiting for abundance.

We are standing in it and refusing to share it.
