The Investors Are Not Coming to Save You
Many developing nations are still waiting for investors.
They are waiting for foreign companies to build factories.
They are waiting for wealthy nations to bring jobs.
They are waiting for someone outside the country to decide that their young people are worth employing.
This is not a plan.
Investors do not come to rescue nations.
They come to make money.
They may come for cheap labour, natural resources, tax breaks or access to the market.
They may leave when another country becomes cheaper.
A nation with millions of young people cannot hand their future to outsiders.
No serious government should be waiting for a stranger to decide whether its people will work.
The land is already there.
The people are already there.
The needs are already there.
Food must be grown.
Homes must be built.
Clothing must be made.
Machines must be developed.
Transport, sanitation, education and public care must be organized.
There is no shortage of work. There is a shortage of leaders willing to organize it.
Foreign investment may help with a project.
It cannot be the future of a nation.
No serious nation waits for a stranger to decide whether its young people will have useful work.
