Media Is Not Morally Neutral

Actors, writers, directors, journalists, producers and platforms carry responsibility for the ideas they knowingly help normalize.

You movie makers, actors, journalists, writers, producers and wider media participants who use your platforms to push evil principles: do not pretend you carry no responsibility for what you help normalize.

You cannot depict something destructive, wrap it in entertainment, call it “just acting,” and assume your hands are clean.

For example, if you take part in a story that presents a married woman aborting her baby for the sake of her career as something admirable, liberating or normal, you participated in sending that message into millions of homes.

“I was only playing a role” does not erase the influence of the role.

Actors make choices. Writers make choices. Directors make choices. Journalists make choices. Platforms make choices. Audiences are affected by those choices.

You may separate the performance from yourself when the cameras stop, but you cannot separate yourself completely from what you willingly helped put into the world.

Influence carries responsibility.

And nobody should assume that because something was done under the banner of entertainment, journalism, art or career, there will never be moral consequences for it.
