The Kimroy Bailey Robotics and Renewable Energy Summer Camp culminated with a grand closing ceremony at the University of Technology, Jamaica. The function marked the end of two trilling summer Robotics and Renewable Energy camps held in Kingston from July 7-12 and July 21-25. Students were introduced to Mobile Robots, Programing, Sensors, Wind and Solar Energy and had the grand chance of touring the Wigton Windfarm where they assembled a residential wind turbine and view a demo home solar system. Over 63 students participated in the Kimroy Bailey Robotics Summer Camp. They indulged in: Mobile Robotics, Programing, Solar Energy, Wind Energy and Toured the Wigton Windfarm
Mrs. Margaret Christian, one of our lead camp organizer, opened the ceremony with her welcomed and brought greetings on behalf of the University of Technology, Jamaica.
Prof. Vernon Buchanan, Vice Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Computing, highlighted the importance of Robotics and Renewable Energy in moving our country forward as we aspire to first world status.Dr. Dave Muir (at the podium) doubled as our lead camp instructor and also the host of the evening’s preceedings. The students assisted in assembling the wind turbine using local materialsMrs. Erica Simmons, Co-Founder of Digital Yard one of our major partners, express her passion for STEM and her desire to see more young ladies being apart of the movement 🙂Mr. Durvan McKenzie brought greetings from Klesing Industrial Services, one of our lead sponsors. He concluded that Robotics and Renewable Energy will play vital roles in the realization of the 2030 vision.”Minister the Honorable Julian Robinson endorsed the Kimroy Bailey Robotics Summer Camp. He highlighted the organizers should expand the model to include more students. He encouraged the students to use Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to create a more sustainable Jamaica.Nathaniel Peat, CEO and Co-Founder of GeNNex highlighted a line of innovative products his company is proposing to use as tools of engaging students with solar energy. Julian Robinson an overview of the vast applications of quadcopters for the local industries including: Crime fighting, fire, video production, realtime monitoring, etc, and strides Kimroy Bailey Robotics has been making in the development of Quad Technologies.
After it all I had to pause for a few words of encouragement from the Chairman of the May Day High School and the CEO of the Digital Yard Foundation, GREAT ladies! 🙂
