Trott Bailey Family · Brazil Hospitality Biodiversity Observatory
Prado, Bahia: The Founding Chapter
Before the Brazil Hospitality Biodiversity Observatory becomes a national network, it begins by learning one place carefully.
Prado is the founding geographic chapter: coast, rivers, villages, rural landscapes, gardens, hospitality properties and generations of local observation living beside one another.
Why Prado?
Prado gives us many different Brazils in one municipality.
A useful Observatory should not begin by chasing the most spectacular wildlife photograph. It should begin by learning how to observe a place consistently.
Prado gives us an unusually strong starting point because its hospitality economy sits beside beaches, rivers, reefs, rural properties, gardens, villages and communities whose everyday lives are shaped by the landscape.
Within the same municipality, one property may observe tides and beach movement while another records pollinators around flowering plants, a third watches birds from a veranda and another notices changes in the Rio Jucuruçu after heavy rain.
Founding Observation Regions
One municipality. Several observation environments.
Prado
The municipal center brings together urban hospitality, the coast, the Rio Jucuruçu, gardens, street trees, rainfall and long-term community memory.
Possible records:- Rio Jucuruçu conditions
- rainfall and flooding
- urban birds
- garden flowering
- coastal conditions
- historic photographs
- neighborhood change
Cumuruxatiba
Hospitality here can contribute a continuous record of village life beside the sea.
Possible records:- birds around pousadas
- flowering vegetation
- pollinators
- tides
- rainfall
- beach change
- seasonal village life
Corumbau
Corumbau brings hospitality into direct contact with coastal, estuarine and marine environments.
Possible records:- tides
- coastal birds
- marine observations
- reef conditions
- vegetation
- fishing knowledge
- seasonal water conditions
Guaratiba
Residential and hospitality environments around Guaratiba can contribute observations of the coast, planted landscapes and changing weather conditions.
Possible records:- coastal vegetation
- birds
- rain
- garden ecology
- shoreline conditions
- planted trees
Rural Prado
Farms, rural pousadas and family properties may observe ecological cycles that are rarely documented continuously.
Possible records:- fruiting periods
- flowering periods
- bees and butterflies
- soil conditions
- orchard activity
- agricultural knowledge
- streams and rainfall
Rio Jucuruçu Corridor
The river is one of the strongest long-term observation opportunities in the founding chapter.
Possible records:- water level
- strong seasonal flow
- flooding
- water color and turbidity
- riverbank vegetation
- rain events
- human use
Founding Observation Fields
What will Prado help us learn to record?
The founding chapter will test a broad observation system. Not every field will apply to every property.
What An Observation Can Look Like
Useful records can begin with very ordinary moments.
A bird returns to the veranda
A pousada photographs the same species or apparently similar bird regularly during the summer.
Instead of posting the photograph once and losing it in a social feed, the property records the date, location, behavior and image.
After several years, that simple habit may become a useful seasonal record.
Flowers bring pollinators
A rural property notices a native or long-established plant flowering.
Bees and butterflies begin visiting. Photographs and dates are preserved.
The observation does not need to claim scientific significance before it is allowed to exist.
The river changes after rain
A property near the Rio Jucuruçu records unusually strong flow, higher water, sediment or flooding after heavy rainfall.
Repeated photographs from the same location can become more useful than a single dramatic image.
The beach moves
A beachfront property notices exposed roots, disappearing sand, new deposition or vegetation responding to coastal change.
A dated photographic sequence can preserve evidence that might otherwise survive only in memory.
The Power of Repetition
One photograph tells us what happened once. Twenty photographs taken over ten years tell us something else.
The Observatory is especially interested in observations that can be repeated.
- the same section of beach;
- the same river viewpoint;
- the same flowering tree;
- the same garden;
- the same bird-feeding area;
- the same mangrove edge;
- the same orchard;
- the same street or neighborhood landscape.
Consistency can turn ordinary hospitality photography into long-term evidence.
Hospitality Observation Stations
The Observatory will grow property by property.
A participating pousada does not become a laboratory. It becomes a documented observation point.
| Station field | What it records |
|---|---|
| Property | Name of the participating hospitality property. |
| Region | Municipality, district or general location. |
| Environment | Urban, coastal, river, rural, forest, garden, agricultural or mixed. |
| Observation strengths | What the location naturally allows the property to observe. |
| First contribution | Date the property begins contributing records. |
| Evidence status | Observed, Community Identified, Expert Reviewed or Externally Corroborated. |
| Media archive | Photographs, video, audio and supporting records. |
Founding Status

Hospitality stations

Current activity
Property outreach, founding observations and infrastructure development
Because a public record should preserve its own beginning. When the Observatory has its first station, tenth station or hundredth station, there will be a visible historical baseline showing where it started.
Why A Pousada Would Participate
Preservation should also be useful to the people doing the preserving.
Own the archive
Important photographs and videos can be organized on the property’s own website instead of existing only on social platforms.
Tell seasonal stories
Flowering, rain, quieter beaches, birds, fruit and other changes can give travelers reasons to understand a destination beyond peak season.
Strengthen direct discovery
Original, well-organized local content gives the property more material through which search engines, journalists, visitors and AI systems can understand what makes it distinctive.
Preserve memory
Old property photographs, community stories and long-term environmental observations can become part of an organized historical record.
Participate for free
Founding participation does not require a Big King Media software licensing fee.
Receive attribution
Public contributions can identify the hospitality property responsible for preserving the original observation.
Infrastructure
Big King Media carries the organization burden.
A useful archive needs more than photographs. It needs dates, descriptions, categories, search, filters, relationships between media and permanent places to find records again.
Big King Media was built by the Trott Bailey Family to organize large media collections and reduce the amount of repetitive technical work humans have to perform.
Founding Public Record
The Prado mission was public before the Observatory had its first station.
Jornal Tribuna documented the Trott Bailey Family’s two-year mission to connect digital infrastructure, hospitality, biodiversity and youth in Prado.
That article now forms part of the public founding record of the Observatory.
Community Knowledge
Prado already knows Prado.
The Observatory should not arrive and behave as though local knowledge begins when we create a database.
Fishers know water. Farmers know flowering and fruiting. gardeners know plants. Families remember floods, storms and changes to the coast. Indigenous communities hold knowledge that may have been preserved across generations.
Where that knowledge is shared, it should remain connected to its source.
Sensitive knowledge, culturally restricted information and precise locations of vulnerable species may remain private or be published only in generalized form.
First Records
The Observatory does not need to wait for a hotel to begin observing.
The Trott Bailey Family can begin the founding record with observations made directly in Prado.
These records will use the same standards expected from future hospitality observation stations.
Possible first observation
A flowering plant photographed repeatedly over several weeks, together with the insects visiting it.
Possible first observation
The Rio Jucuruçu photographed from the same location during dry weather and after strong rainfall.
Possible first observation
A commonly seen bird documented with date, location, photograph and identification status.
Possible first observation
One section of coastline photographed repeatedly to preserve visible erosion, deposition or vegetation change.
These examples are observation opportunities, not claims that the corresponding records have already been collected.
Where This Chapter Is Going
Eventually, Prado should become browsable as a living local record.
As real observations accumulate, this chapter can develop into:
- a map of hospitality observation stations;
- a seasonal bird record;
- a flowering and pollinator calendar;
- a Rio Jucuruçu observation series;
- a coastal-change archive;
- a directory of individual observation records;
- a local knowledge archive;
- a collection of verified species;
- a hospitality history archive;
- annual Prado Observatory reports.
The first version does not need all of this. It needs a trustworthy structure that can grow into it.
Founding Invitation
Does your Prado property see something worth preserving?
It does not need to be rare. It does not need to be scientifically identified. It does not need to happen every day.
If it is real, observable and connected to your place, it may belong in the record.
