UTech Robotics Team Featured on Hot 102 Fm

On Thursday February 23, 2012 two of the 15 students delegation preparing to represent the University of Technology and Jamaica were invited for a radio interview on HOT 102 Fm. The interview commenced at 7:00pm during prime time and lasted for an hour.

The team was featured on the Mosais Lighthouse program with host Rev. Miranda Sutherland. The students myself, Kimroy Bailey and Chantelle Grant took the opportunity to share with Jamaica details about the 2011 Robotics Competition and invited sponsors to support the 15 member team to represent the country.The 2012 Robotics Competition will be held in Orlando Florida and UTech will be entering all six competitions: Software, T-Shirt, Website, Technical Paper, Ethics Paper and the most important of them all the Robotics Competition.

The Digital Yard Robotics Project was also a major topic discussed during the interview. Science and Technology are imperalative to Jamaica’s continued development. For this reason that the Digital Yard seeks to develop engineering interest across Jamaica and target high school with the fascinating field of Robotics to spark their interest. On March 15, 2012 a 12 member Jamaica College High School robotics team will be participating at a highschool robotics competition in New York. The UTech group has been supporting and mentoring those individuals as they prepare for that competition.

We concluded the interview by discussing the 2012 IEEE Competition, expecting to host over 500 students representing more than 50 universities in the southeastern region of the United States. It is also keen to note that Jamaica is the only other nation featured at the conference. So not only is the 2012 team representing the University of technology, they are also representing the beautiful island of Jamaica and the Caribbean by extension.
