WHAT WE COUNT AS WEALTHCHAPTER 24

Shubaka: The Work That Makes Free Possible

Shubaka is what contribution becomes when the person doing it is already secure. I know the pleasure of useful work. I enjoyed the lifeguard stand, the printing business, repairing laptop chargers and building robots with students. Sher enjoys authoring systems that make the lives of other families easier. We want those pleasures to be available without attaching the next meal, rent payment or medical appointment to a person’s ability to sell another hour.

Work still matters. Orchards need knowledgeable growers. Water systems need inspection. Food needs preparation and safe distribution. Children need teaching, transport needs repair, and health care requires people who know what they are doing. Shubaka organizes those contributions around capability, training, rotations, restoration and the actual needs of the community. Pacorips helps a person become visible for what he or she can do, including skills acquired outside a credentialed occupation.

We also include the work of making a family. The mother who has given birth and is breastfeeding has contributed something no wage scale could properly price. The father raising children, the couple caring for an elder and the household teaching a new skill are doing important civilizational work. Their rest is equally important. Work should make the world better, and the world should then give life back to the worker.

We remembered the tourists in Alanya who worked all year for a brief seaside holiday. In our design, a beautiful morning beside water is a normal benefit of living in a capable civilization. A person finishes a meaningful contribution and goes to swim, dance, eat, teach a child or sit with a spouse. The work and the delight belong to the same life.
