Indonesia: large labour capacity still leaves families carrying cash and travel burdens

BPS counted a 154.0 million labour force in August 2025 with 4.85% open unemployment and an average employee wage of IDR 3.33 million. SUPAS 2025 separately counted about 11 million commuters. These figures show large productive capacity, but ordinary family life still depends heavily on paid work and repeated travel rather than abundance being reachable without cash.

Indonesia: the MBG free-meal rollout is a major abundance gain, but it does not remove the wider food money gate

Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals programme is one of the clearest present-day movements toward food outside monetary gatekeeping. By 3 March 2026, BGN reported 61.24 million beneficiaries, including 49.06 million school students. That deserves substantial Reach credit. It still does not mean all meals for all people are free: BPS reported 24.06 million people below the national poverty line in September 2024 and food made up 74.50% of that minimum-needs line.

BPS reports 93.22% of households had access to an improved drinking-water source in 2025, but only 44.24% used safely managed drinking-water services. Adequate sanitation reached 85.37%. The gap between basic/improved access and reliably safe managed water is therefore still large.

Indonesia: near-universal electricity connection creates strong capacity, while reliability and household energy burdens still matter

Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources reported an electrification ratio of 99.83% in 2026. That is a very strong physical-reach achievement. Connection alone does not prove uninterrupted, affordable household energy or remove the continuing fuel and appliance costs families carry, so the score preserves a substantial gap between connection and money-free capability.

SUPAS 2025 measured total fertility at 2.13 children per woman, infant mortality at 14.12 per 1,000 births and the age-60-plus population at 11.97%. Family continuity remains stronger than in many ageing economies, while the large MBG programme reduces one child-rearing burden. Housing, transport, care and most household needs nevertheless still require family cash income.

Indonesia: vast territory does not automatically become ordinary household spatial freedom

Indonesia has enormous physical land capacity, but 55.65% of the population is concentrated on Java and only 68.40% of households met the national adequate-housing measure in 2025. Physical land therefore coexists with concentrated opportunity, housing constraints and a large gap between national territory and ordinary household access to useful space.

BPS measured a national Happiness Index of 71.49 in 2021, with households of five or more at 72.05. Indonesia also has exceptional natural, cultural and community-life capacity. The latest national happiness measure is older, however, and ordinary recreation, travel, entertainment and much cultural consumption still commonly require payment, so the score gives capacity credit without treating delight as freely reachable.

Trott Bailey Family Civilization Target

The end state: life beyond monetary gatekeeping

Trott Bailey Family Civilization treats money as an exchange tool rather than a prerequisite for access to life. The long-run abundance target is that food, water, shelter, care, education, mobility, land access and ordinary public life remain reachable even when a person cannot pay.

This target is an authored civilization standard. The diagnostic evidence score can now draw from all 16 weighted categories. The five-part Money Gate remains a separate domestic threshold asking whether food, housing/land, healthcare, transportation and water/energy are genuinely reachable without payment before any civilization can cross zero.
